Construction - Day One

My friend (and mentor) Sandi Whyman joined me in my studio to begin work on the shrine portion of the piece. We cut, scraped, and taped styrofoam for the greater portion of the day.

For years, I've been saying that if I had a penny for every time someone's said, "I like your work," I'd be rich!

In 2011, I'll ask everyone who tells me they like a piece or like my work to drop a penny in my Penny Jar (and if they don't I'll drop one in myself), but not to make me rich... to involve the community in a truly public art project. After the year ends, we, the community, will create a piece of art (not sure what yet) that incorporates the pennies into the piece.

The Penny Jar will be on display in my studio during "Open Studio" events and will be incorporated into my shows whenever practical. Periodically, I'll count the pennies and post the total in the "Project Progress" box above.
